My fiancee and I have traveled from Siena to Pienza by bike. The road is a masterpiece. Passing by all the little towns, looking in the eyes of the old people coming back from the fields, stopping by to draw a memory of the horizon, so red in the evening and so green in the morning with hills covered by crops and woods. This was a priceless.
Cars pass you by so fast and so furiously that it feels like they are going to throw you in the ditch. But we have found an overall higher respect towards bikers than in the UK.
The colors of the land mix well with those of the food. Tasty cold cuts make for a great light lunch between two slices of bread. A glass of red wine gave us the strength to keep going on the hills taking to the town of Pienza. Of course wine before biking would be no good anywhere else but in Tuscany.
When we got to Pienza the refreshing little roads and the wonderful landscape paid back manifolds. We stayed in Pienza for the night, then we left to go back to Siena. I'd do it again many times!
